On Saturday, January 4, 2020, the Satanta High School S-club traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, to watch the University of Oklahoma Sooners take on the Kansas State Wildcats for the first game of Big 12 Conference play. The group of 23 students and S-club sponsors Mr. Tim Dusin and Ms. Janie Lutz were joined by adult chaperones Mrs. Joyce Apsley, Principal Heather Stegman and her husband Tim, and bus drivers Tina Martinez and Maureen Wagner.
The trip began early with a 4:30 a.m. departure for the noon game. The Wildcats led for much of the game before the Sooners pulled ahead for a 61-66 OU victory, leaving K-State 7-6 on the season and OU 10-3. Xavier Sneed led the Wildcats with 22 points.
Following the game, the group spent some time at the Oklahoma City Outlets before heading back home, arriving in Satanta before 10:00 p.m. after a long day on the road. “The trip went much faster than we expected,” said Satanta junior Ella Burrows. “We watched movies on the bus, and that helped passed the time. This was a first-time experience for many of my friends, so that added excitement to the trip.”
Tim Dusin, organizer of the trip, said of the experience: “It was a good game, and we had a great group of kids who had put in the time and effort in their respective sports. It was a nice reward to enjoy together.”
The Indians will themselves be back in action on Friday with a road game against the Hodgeman County Longhorns at Jetmore.
